Corinne Gilkison

Corinne Beatrice Gilkison was born on 6 September 1917. Corinne was a versitile sportswoman competing in Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Skiing & Tennis to name a few.

Corrine won the National Dance and Pairs with Brian Tuffnail in 1947 and again in 1948, as well as the Senior Ladies title held in Oturehua.

In addition to this Corrine won several short distance races in both Central Otago and Lake Tekapo the 880 yds, the 1 mile in 1947 and the 880 yards in 1948.

With the opening of Dunedin Stadium, Corrine was no longer participating in ice sports, but generously provided significant funding, the rink was offically named  the "The Corinne Gilkison Ice Arena".

Corinne died on 4th June 2014 at the age of 96 years. Dunedin Ice Skating Club has created the Corinne Gilkison Cup in her honour.

The Corinne Gilkison Cup 2024 will be hosted by Dunedin Ice Skating Club. This interclub competition doubles as the Dunedin Ice Skating Club
Championships 2024, therefore it counts as a club championship for the purposes of NZIFSA Rule 205 (Qualification for Entry to NZ Nationals).


The event will take place at Dunedin Ice Stadium from August 30th to September 1st 2024.
